Minister of State for Energy and New and Renewable Energies, RK Singh, said India will replace the duty of protection with the duty to protect local solar manufacturers. He said some countries are disposing of solar panels at very low prices in our country to destroy local manufacturers.

In an exclusive conversation with AIR News, Mr. Singh said that India wanted to expand its export base in solar and wind energy, with the country not only being self-sufficient but also an exporter. He said India has the maximum growth and demand for renewable energy because per capita energy consumption in the country is very low.

Speaking about the production-based incentive system to stimulate local manufacturing, the minister said this program will further accelerate manufacturing.

Mr Singh called the PM-KUSUM program a second green revolution and said this program will benefit farmers by providing subsidies to build solar pumps and generate solar energy on their barren land.

The minister said that the cost of solar energy will be reduced in the future due to the higher efficiency of solar modules, cells and storage capacities. He said this will greatly help the consumer by providing cheap electricity.
