Rogues invaded the government and 2 Haidernagar high school in Palamau, some 90 km from Daltonganj, and sources said they stole several devices, including seven solar cell batteries. The matter came to light on Thursday when school principal Ganga Agrawal found the lock open.

According to sources, the theft was said to have been committed on the night between November 10 and 11. Agrawal said, “Since the Jharkhand Academic Council 10th and 12th grade exam forms are filled out by the students, we went to our school even on the day of Chhath, November 10th, and also on November 11th, when the theft happened. “Seven solar cell batteries, DVR, CCTV camera, monitor, induction chulha and seven chairs were found stolen from the school, she said.

Sources said the school administration had no idea why even seven chairs were stolen. Online classes had to be suspended due to the theft of the solar panel batteries and other devices. Around 3,600 boys and girls studying at this school are shocked by this incident. This school offers students in grades 9 to 12. The principal admitted that the school had no night watch at the time of the incident. However, after the theft, a Nepalese night watchman was employed. Thieves also damaged the school’s power cables, sources said.

A written complaint was filed with the local police station in Haidernagar. The sub-inspector of the Haidernagar Police Station, SS Oraon, said: “We have received the report and are investigating.” Sources said that theft in schools is a common practice here in the Palamau district. Police admit that on average one case of theft in a school is reported every three months, and sometimes the number increases.

Sources said that there is design behind battery theft and it appears to be the work of an organized network. The theft was brought to the attention of Deputy Commissioner Palamau Shashi Ranjan and the District Education Bureau. Police superintendent Palamau Chandan Kumar Sinha, when contacted, said he would do no stone unturned to arrest the accused and has directed the Hussainabad Subdivision Police, Pujya Prakash, to resolve this case as a high priority.
